flow due to electrolysis. Put a new brand new injector into the fuel rail alongside one that's old, working and still somewhat in spec. Pressurize the installed rail, place an DC ammeter capability of measuring low level current flows (microamps) in series with a +12v connection to the battery and connected to just ONE of the injector terminals (terminal that usually gets +12volts). Run this test on both injectors and see what kind of current reading is produced... My personal belief is that those coil terminal grommet/o-rings are what's breaking down over time. However in the 1 injector that I dissected the wire coil was very fragile and broke apart in a few places with the rest of the coil line in good shape. Hard to say if the fragile wire was due to age (16 yr old injector) or because of something else. I'm inclined to believe the breaks were just due to age...
